Unforgettable Fondue Experience in Paris: Le Refuge des Fondues

If you’re looking for a unique dining experience in Paris that includes an appetizer, wine, fondue, and dessert all for under $30 (29 Euros as of 2024), then head straight to the base of Montmartre to Le Refuge des Fondues at 17 rue des Trois Frères, 75018 Paris, France!

As a former college student in Paris, I quickly found this cozy establishment to be my go-to spot for fondue. With just two long tables, the waiters help guests step across to nestle into a long bench, fostering a friendly atmosphere where you’re bound to make new friends. Since 1966, this charming spot has been delighting Parisians and tourists alike.

Start your meal with a kir (a delightful mix of white wine and crème de cassis syrup) and an assortment of cheeses, olives, pickles, potatoes, and charcuterie. Then, choose between fondue savoyarde (cheese) or fondue bourguignonne (beef) for the main course, followed by a choice of delicious desserts. In a quirky twist, the owners serve wine in plastic baby bottles to prevent spills—a huge hit with patrons! And if that’s not enough, you’ll also get a complimentary “digestive” shot at the end of your meal.

For just $30, you enjoy a great meal and an atmosphere brimming with energy and friendliness. Guests are encouraged to write on the walls, sing, and make friends with everyone around. Every visit leaves me feeling optimistic about the world, thanks to the infectious joy in the room and, perhaps, the generous amounts of wine.

I can’t wait to return to this gem of a restaurant this coming March!

Have you been to a fondue restaurant in Europe? How was it?
